Maturity Prevents A Lot of Tortures In Marriage- Pastor (Mrs) Biola Okeke

The place of maturity in marriage cannot be overemphasised, therefore, it is pertinent that you are matured before venturing into marriage to avoid any form of torture.

What exactly is Maturity?

“Maturity is the ability to think, speak, and act your feelings within the bounds of dignity.” – Samuel Ullman, poet

“Caring—about people, about things, about life—is an act of maturity.” – Tracy McMillan, Author.

“Maturity is achieved when a person postpones immediate pleasures for long-term values.” – Joshua L. Liebman, Rabbi.

“Maturity: Being able to stick with a job until it is finished. Being able to bear an injustice without having to get even. Being able to carry money without spending it. Do your duty without being supervised.” – Ann Landers, Advice Columnist

“To make mistakes is human; to stumble is commonplace; to be able to laugh at yourself is maturity.” – William Arthur Ward, poet

“I guess real maturity, which most of us never achieve, is when you realize that you’re not the center of the universe.” – Katherine Paterson, Author.

We can go on and on trying to define what maturity is?
Maturity is more than age. There are several people l know who are quite aged but behave immaturely.
I used to have a childhood friend although l am older than her, she was much more mature than l was because she handles situations with so much care and concern; she’s discrete, always gives benefit of doubt to people and can manage her emotions.

Broadly, maturity is the ability to respond to a situation in an age-appropriate manner.

What prompted me to write about the need for singles to be mature before marriage was based on my own experience.

I wasn’t a child when l got married, I was matured physically and in age but there were certain areas of my life l have not worked on as much l should despite the fact that I was a born again child of God, besides, a prayer warrior. I had a name then in my fellowship because I was a prayer coordinator ( Mama Nash) and l remember l had a bag I carry around with a sticker on it “Terror to the devil”. I had a major issue dealing with and managing anger.

My level of impatience was very low. My husband had to put up with so much and l thank God he gave me someone who is truly a child of God. Not by mouth but in action and truth.
And He used him to help me overcome these shortcomings.

Before venturing into marriage you must be matured- Physically, Spiritually, Emotionally and Financially.
Your journey into marriage is a trip you could embark upon that can easily be an adventurous one and very exciting if you understand what it takes to succeed. Moreso, the place of preparation too cannot be ruled out. Marriage is not for boys and girls, that is why these days some marriages don’t last more than 2 months or even less.

Marriage becomes frustrating when there is no financial maturity.
Marriage is not rosy when there is no financial maturity.
There must be a major source of income for you to be able to meet your basic needs. Marriage becomes destructible when there is no spiritual maturity.
Marriage becomes tiring when there’s no spiritual maturity and it becomes a direct source of sin when there’s no emotional maturity.
For you to enjoy your marriage, the fruits of the spirit must be resident in you.
Sometimes you just have to be intentional about it.
Marriage becomes a very interesting one when you have learnt how to love and obey God.

I submit to my husband not because I have the will and power to do so but “as unto the lord”
Husbands too love their wives but not because they’re perfect but because it must be done the same way Christ love the church. So you see you cannot take the “God factor’ out if you must have a successful ride in marriage.
