12 WAYS WIVES SHOULD SUBMIT TO THEIR OWN HUSBANDS

12 Ways wives should submit to their own husbands, their head.

I deemed it fit to talk about this because there had been a lot of miscommunication and misrepresentation when it comes to the submission of wives to their husbands.

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.” Eph. 5:22-24

Undoubtedly, the scriptures command that wives should submit to their own husbands, as the church is subject to Christ; but their parameters and boundaries of submission in this regard are often misunderstood. Many have misinterpreted submission in this sphere to mean women are being told to be subservient to their husbands. No, not all.

I have carefully outlined below 12 ways wives should submit to their husbands in this post. I am positive that it will be insightful and helpful to many well-meaning wives, especially the younger ones of this generation.

1. Never assume that the leadership position meant for your husband in the home under any guise, especially if you are better placed financially than he is momentarily or if you occupy a high position in your chosen field or career.

2. Ensure he ratifies all your major and minor decisions, especially if they concern you personally and the family at large. That is, don’t go on alone with your dreams, projects, or decision-making without carrying him along. Remember, he is your head, your cover.

3. Avoid comparing him to any other man, even when situations arise and you’re tempted to do so. Instead, learn to celebrate his efforts and strengths while covering up for his weaknesses (not sins).

4. Let everyone around you—extended relatives, friends, and colleagues—know that he is a man of honour and deserves to be treated as such. Lead by example by seizing opportunities to honour him in private and public.

5. Avoid confrontation or heated arguments with your husband, even when he is not doing certain things the way it is expected of him. Rather, use reasoning and appeal to get him on the right course. Sometimes, employ the spiritual weapon of prayer so that God can turn his heart to you. Don’t disrespect your husband simply because he disrespects you. He is your head; you are not the head. True submission is unconditional.

6. Never honour anyone above your husband on any ground, not even your boss or a man of God. He is your head; every other man is heading one woman or another somewhere. So, accord him the highest respect as your husband. Eph. 5:33.

7. Believe in him, his dreams, struggles, and stand by him even when the world tends to turn their back on him, especially if they do so for selfish reasons.

8. Avoid using insulting words or making sarcastic comments to your husband when he acts disappointingly. But you can correct him humbly and sternly without making a caricature of his headship.

9. Don’t dishonour his parents for any reason or disrespect people he highly esteems, particularly those who have been part of his life journey in very significant ways. Doing this makes him bless you from his heart, among other things.

10. Never take decisions or carry out actions that could make your children, relatives, and in-laws look down on him or see him as someone who is weak.

11. Appreciate him regularly for all his contributions to the family, even the non-financial ones. Don’t behave as if all he does for you and the children are merely his duties or your rights. Learn to honour him beyond the money he brings home, whether it’s little or more than enough.

12. Ensure his sexual needs are a priority for you because sex is on men’s minds a lot, unlike women. Don’t let his sex drive drive you crazy or make you become a sexual tyrant. Also, learn to cooperate with him to enable an atmosphere for unrestricted and fulfilling sexual intimacy together.
